In my family everyone owns a notebook – my sister has her Dell, my mom treasures her HP Pavilion, my dad loves his ASUS and my grandparent’s each have a Sony Vaio they received recently as gifts (and are still struggling to use them!). In addition to the different laptop models, they are all different sizes and finding accessories usable by all of them can be a challenge. That’s where the Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Notebook Cooler comes in handy – it’s super affordable and can fit all of our laptops up to 17” with no problems, making it a great cooler to have sitting around the house available to everyone. The cooler has one 160 mm (about 6.3 inch) fan that provides a very impressive volume of air. The surface of the pad is metal and is in a mesh pattern – which the company claims allows for better airflow. It certainly seems to allow for a large amount of air, you can actually feel the metal getting cold after you’ve had the pad on for awhile!
Another good feature that everyone in the family will like is the two adjustable height settings the pad has. It has a little stand you can flip out (like the ones on keyboards) to give your laptop an angle, thus reducing glare on the screen and giving your hands a comfortable surface to type on. Another nice feature is the lightweight construction of this cooler – it is a little over 1 pound and can easily be put in a backpack or notebook case. The cooler runs off of USB 2.0 power making it even more portable and the power consumption (of 1.9 Watts) is very low and barely noticieable when using your notebook. On the underside of the cooler there is also a small compartment you can snap the USB cable into when it’s not in use – saving you the hassle of dealing with a cord hanging out and trying to wrap itself around random objects. That about wraps up the features, this is a no-frills type of cooler that gets the job done and doesn’t do much more.
The cooling power on this pad definitely lives up to the Cooler Master name. As soon as I switched on the fan, I could feel the air being moved on my legs and my laptop got noticieably cooler within 5 minutes. If you have this pad in your lap, it is just the right height and your legs will not block any of the air being pulled up by the fan. One thing I noticed is that the fan didn’t directly line up with the hottest part of my laptop (the battery), but regardless it still provided more than enough cooling power to fully cool your notebook.
All in all this is a durable, dependable, and quality notebook cooler that gets the job done and doesn’t offer much more. But that’s just fine because of how affordable this pad is and how well it works. I would recommended this to those with large families or multiple laptops who want a quality cooler to go along with them.
